Please read Needles, Syringes and Other Medical Sharps for more information. Don't Overfill You should be able to put your lids securely back on when you have filled your garbage cans. The wind can blow the lids away if you don't. Seasonal Garbage Bag Limits What: As per previous years, Waste & Recycling Services wants to remind residents that an "as-needed" five bag or can limit on the amount of garbage collected per household will be in effect for Spring. The maximum weight for bags or cans is 20kg. When: Throughout the Spring. Where: Residents who produce more than five bags or cans are asked to place their regular household garbage out in front of any yard waste. Why: The arrival of spring results in yard clean-up for many Calgarians which creates periods of heavy garbage volumes for The City of Calgary Waste & Recycling Services collection crews. Since the Easter weekend, we have already noticed that residents have begun spring cleaning activities. The five bag or can limit ensures a weekly collection service is provided to each household and maintains collection schedules. As in the Fall period, when similar restrictions apply, focus will be placed on removing household waste first, followed by removal of yard waste as time permits, either on the collection day or over subsequent collection periods. Keeping household garbage area clean and tidy also helps collectors move swiftly and efficiently through the routes. Residents are encouraged to convert their yard waste into useable compost with a backyard composter sales event in June. Citizens can also reduce their waste by depositing paper, cardboard, and other recyclables at a nearby community recycling depot.
