Garritty & Baker Drilling was founded in 1947 as a small seismic operation through Imperial Oil's divestiture of its seismic operation. The company expanded into coal exploration, mineral exploration, blast hole drilling, hammer drilling, geotechnical and environmental drilling over the years. In 1987 the current partners purchased the company from Gerard Garritty on his retirement. We culled, overhauled and built new equipment and operated twelve rigs of various configurations throughout Western Canada, NWT and Nevada. We sold the company to Simmons Drilling in 1995 who were interested primarily in the larger oil and gas rigs. We repurchased three smaller geotechnical rigs from Simmons in 1998 when they rationalized their drilling divisions. Today we operate this and other equipment utilizing experienced crews from our past operation.
