On November 18th, 2010 we will pay special tribute to two exceptional individuals who have been amazing advocates for child development, health and education. The 2010 National Child Day Award recipient is Clyde Hertzman. Dr. Hertzman, as a fellow of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, has made important contributions to the work on early brain development that has been instrumental in making early childhood development a priority for federal, provincial and territorial governments. The 2010 CICH Leadership Award recipient is Shirley Post.Shirley Post recognized the need for improved health services to children and youth in the Ottawa region and nationally and played a central role in the establishment of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario and subsequently the Canadian Institute of Child Health. She was CHEO's first Director of Nursing, and worked to improve the well being of children prior to her retirement in 1987.
