“ How to transform indignation into action? ” This simple and enormous question sent Italian theatre company Motus on the tracks of Antigone: a backward glance, listening to her radiant stubbornness, in order to reflect on the present. Motus was founded in 1991 by Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolò, who have always sculpted their projects like litmus paper, translating the contradictions of a culture and making them active material for reflection and provocation. Their creations have toured across the world and won numerous awards. Alexis. A Greek Tragedy is the company’s fourth production to contemplate the moral and political issues of Antigone , Sophocles’ eternal tragedy of resistance against power.

Arran is a Calgary-based performer, composer and music producer who has worked with a multitude of local and international artists. He seeks to tap into the emotional resonance of any given situation, whether it be film, theatre, live recording, musical performance or studio production.

The award-winning First Calgary Financial Mentorship Program with Theatre Junction GRAND offers 16 high school students the unique opportunity to learn about creating their own original performance through an intensive workshop series with our Company of Artists while developing one-on-one mentoring relationships with theatre professionals.

In the RBC Emerging Artists Workshop Series, visiting artists being presented in our season are invited to share some aspect of their unique creation process with the emerging and professional theatre, dance, music and visual arts community in Calgary through an intensive workshop. The RBC Emerging Artists Workshop Series exposes local artists to diverse artistic practices, strengthening the infrastructure for contemporary performance in the city of Calgary and infusing our local community with a global perspective that will help our homegrown artists remain at the forefront of their practice. Theatre Junction GRAND is dedicated to providing educational opportunities for emerging and professional artists in the practice of contemporary performance, collaborative creation and new forms. Originally from Québec, Luc received training in Martial Arts at an early age, which has been an influence throughout his career so far. Through Karate he learned about the philosophy of the other, of listening to the self and of balance in the game of forces. Later in his life, Luc became interested in the social dance phenomenon and discovered Swing, which he practiced for several years. Intrigued by the body and physicality, at 25 years old, Luc decided to pursue a degree in contemporary dance at the University of Québec in Montréal, which propelled him quickly into the professional dance world.
