LONDON: Tata Steel has decided to cut about 400 jobs at its plant in Port Talbot in Wales, while not ruling out compulsory redundancies. The company, which is part of the Indian conglomerate Tata Group, announced restructuring proposals to improve the competitiveness of its South Wales steel-making business. The proposed changes are aimed at enabling the Tata Steel’s UK strip products business, which produces sheets of steel used to make products such as tin cans, cars, roofing and fridges, to compete in Europe’s low-demand market by reducing costs.
