The Sikumiut owners and equal partners are Ron Webb, an Inuk residing in Nain; Gus Dicker, an Inuk residing in Nain; Leroy Metcalfe, an Inuk originally from Nain, now residing in St. John’s; and Bevin LeDrew, a resident of St. John’s. The company has offices in Nain, Happy Valley-Goose Bay and St. John’s, with a core staff of 20, seasonally growing to over 40. In addition, SEM has developed a network of senior advisors who are available as-needed to provide their experience and insights.

Mr. Goosney is a Professional Civil Engineer who specializes in fish passage design and operation as it relates to the compensation and mitigation of hydro development projects and mining industry and has over 25 years experience in the hydraulic design of both upstream and downstream fish passage facilities. The types of fish passage design options developed and designed over his career range from remedial blasting, or rustic fish passes, to multimillion dollar fishways and fish elevators used as an enhancement strategy or as options for compensation/mitigation. Mr.

Tim Anderson has had over 35 years experience in various aspects of fisheries in Newfoundland and Labrador. From a freshwater perspective he has extensive experience in all aspects of salmonid research and, in 1985, he published ‘The Rivers of Labrador’ a 389 page Special Publication of the Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. As a fish habitat manager with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans he initiated the development of a freshwater and marine habitat inventory.

Provision of Environmental Services is at the core of SEM’s capabilities and the company has been providing a broad range of services to clients for the past 10 years in both aquatic and terrestrial environments. SEM is very experienced in all aspects of environmental assessment and has produced several comprehensive environmental impact statements for major clients in Newfoundland and Labrador and the North. The company has completed a wide variety of environmental effects monitoring studies in freshwater, marine, and terrestrial environments.

SEM has conducted a long-term project to monitor resource harvesting and winter travel patterns in relation to winter shipping activities. The company has also conducted long-term effects monitoring to assess ‘community level’ effects from major resource development. SEM has developed diversity programs for several clients in order to comply with government policy, address Impact Benefit Agreements (IBA) requirements and to satisfy corporate policy. SEM’s team has relevant experience in development of IBAs and in their application to the EA process.
