I spend a great deal of time working with people who have internalized shaming messages – mostly from childhood. Examples include “you’re stupid, you’re not worth it, you’ll never amount to anything. You can add your own to this list. Most of us carry around some dis-empowering beliefs. At our College we are engaged in an on-going battle to help students work through those old messages and replace them with healthier more positive ones. What about those individuals who have truly committed shameful acts? My former career involved working with criminals, sex offenders, and addicts.

For over 40 years, life skills programs have been used effectively in addictions recovery and treatment. In 1967, the Canadian Government funded various initiatives to celebrate Canada's Centennial. The province of Saskatchewan used their funds to develop a highly effective and successful life skills program entitled Saskatchewan NewStart.

I have a Bachelor Degree in Human Justice and worked with young offenders for several years. I have personal and work-related familiarity with addiction and mental health issues. I have gained valuable experience in overcoming these life challenges. I would like to become more confident in being a leader and more active in helping others, especially at the DTES First United Church. There is so much need for compassionate and supportive people to help ease some of the burden.

Our life coaching courses teach you the fundamental knowledge and skills required to effectively coach individuals and conduct groups. We provide you with comprehensive personal coaching, group coaching and life skills training which includes designing, developing and teaching activities to groups.

Rhodes Wellness College takes the extra step to include professional counsellor training in your Life Coach Diploma program. Other schools rarely offer counsellor training as part of their life coach training programs. We believe a background in counselling is invaluable to becoming a successful life coach. Providing basic counselling services helps you stand above other life coaches and is another tool to help your clients overcome challenges.
