In April 1996, Michel Roy lost two jobs in a row because of economic difficulties in the epoxy and polyurethane resin fabrication sector, the sector where he was employed. At the age of 36, he decided to take a couple of months off to reflect on and plan his future. Since he had worked in this sector for several years, he knew what skills were needed not only to be a good epoxy and polyurethane resin distributor and formulator, but also to stand out in the Québec market and across Canada. In addition, he knew that dealing directly with businesses that used these types of resin would give him the advantage of being able to target their various needs. A market analysis showed him that companies offering this type of resin were surviving, although they provided poor quality service, because they were doing business in a sector where the supply of epoxy and polyurethane resins was scarce. Confident in his technical knowledge of polymers, with regard to both thermoplastic and thermoset resins, and in his contacts with companies that used these products, Michel Roy was convinced that his entry into this market would allow him to make a difference.
