Description
The Nisbet Lodge family is made up of Nisbet Lodge Long Term Care Home, McClintock Manor Senior's Apartments and the Nisbet Lodge Charitable Foundation. Nisbet Lodge was established in 1972 and opened its doors in May 1973. Founded by members of Calvary Church, it was originally created as a retirement home for people of faith in east Toronto. Over the years, the needs of the residents increased and in 1982 the organization received funding from the Ministry of Health, Extended Health Care Program to provide Long Term Care services. In 1992 the Nisbet Lodge Charitable Foundation was created to support the ongoing work of the Lodge and Manor. In 1993 the next initiative was the construction of McClintock Manor, a senior's apartment building for seniors age 65+. Funded through the Ministry of Housing, the Manor welcomed its first tenants in May 1993. It is part of a Continuum of Care Model with Nisbet Lodge. In 1997 Nisbet was first accredited with the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA) and has maintain that status ever since. In 2002 Nisbet Lodge was officially designated as a Christian home. This designation recognizes the original intent of Calvary Church, which was to create a home for seniors regardless of denomination that practiced and respected traditional Christian values. In 2006, McClintock Manor was recognized and received a Christian designation from the City of Toronto. In 2008, Nisbet Lodge will be celebrating 35 years in the community serving seniors. In 2008, McClintock Manor will celebrate 15 years as the home of choice for independent seniors.
