Description
Candice Hague utilizes a varieity of approaches, but tends to blend strength-based, cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, mindfulness-based, and motivational interviewing techniques primarily into her counselling practice. She also tends to draw upon training in yogic and Buddhist philosophies to provide clients with a complete approach to health and wellness. There are several different approaches used in the counselling profession. However, a holistic and eclectic approach that combines different forms of therapy is often the best in treating people in order to best meet individual needs. Working from a holistic perspective that incorporates addressing the mind, body and spirit is a key component to successfully treating addiction, eating disorders, and related issues. In order to best meet the individual needs of each client, referrals to other health care professionals will often be encouraged and recommended in order to help optain optimal mental and physical health. With all the different approaches to utilize in counselling, it may be surprising to hear that none of these specific techniques or approaches is considered to be the most important tool in the therapeutic process. What is the most important element in therapy is what we call the therapeutic alliance. It's the key to any successful therapy. A recent study suggests that this therapeutic relationship may be as important, if not more important, than the specific therapeutic technique in determining outcome. People get well in many ways but the relationship of trust and mutual respect between the client and counsellor serves as a foundation for treatment. Following are some of the counselling approaches described that Nirvana Counselling utilizes: : is an approach that helps clients discover their individual and natural strengths in order to empower them to be successful in overcoming obstacles and achieving and maintaining recovery. Rather than emphasizing a client's conflicts and pain, a strength-based counsellor helps you to identify your resources and innate abilities that you have unconsciously repressed. From a strength-based counselling perspective, allowing your innate assets to rise to the surface and be fully actualized is the ultimate cure to so much of the anxiety and depression you experience. -Cognitive Behaviour Therapy(CBT): Cognitive behaviour therapy is a very directive and time-limited therapy. The counsellor and client work together to identify irrational beliefs, misperceptions, dysfunctional thoughts and faulty thinking. CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviours. Therefore, if we can change the way we think, we can change the way we feel and act to situations. Outcome studies show that CBT compares favourably with antidepressant medication and is often considered the treatment of choice for treating eating disorders. The counsellor seeks to understand what their clients goals are in life and then helps them get closer to achieving those goals. The counsellors role is to listen, teach, and encourage, while the client`s role is to express concerns, learn and implement that learning.
