Nanaimo Airport

Description

Although the Nanaimo Airport was established in 1942 and the Nanaimo Airport Commission was incorporated in 1990 as a not-for profit authority, the aviation history of the area dates back much further thanks to flying Ace Raymond Collishaw. In fact, the terminal building was named for this Nanaimo born hero in 1999.

Kenmore Air Harbor, Inc., has provided scheduled and charter seaplane service throughout the Northwest since 1946. It is the largest seaplane operator in the United States, providing daily year-round service from two Seattle-area terminals to Washington’s San Juan Islands and Victoria, B.C., as well as seasonal service to more than 30 destinations along British Columbia’s Inside Passage.

The Nanaimo Airport Commission was incorporated in August of 1990 as a not-for profit authority under the Canada Corporations Act – Part II. In April of 1992 the Commission assumed management and operation of the Nanaimo Airport under a 30 year lease from the Federal Ministry of Transport. In December of 1996 the Commission was granted fee simple title to the Nanaimo Airport lands through the National Airports Policy transfer initiative.

The Nanaimo Airport property is situated on approximately 500 acres of beautiful Vancouver Island. Our primary catchment area includes a population greater than 232,000 and serves on average – 150,000 passengers annually. We are adjacent to the Island Highway approximately 15 minutes south of Nanaimo, an excellent position to meet the growing needs of local communities.
