Description
David spent several months in the field working with the testing and balancing technicians, gaining valuable practical experience with field testing and adjusting for mechanical systems. He has been assisting the Commissioning Department, working with the experienced commissioning agents and is training to develop into a commissioning technologist.
Western Mechanical Services is proud to have been part of this unique construction project by providing the building commissioning services to help UBC to achieve its first LEED ® Platinum Building certification.
Paul Hodge has been with Western Mechanical since 1988. He is a second-generation balancing technician for Western Mechanical. Paul’s dad, Bert was a key member of the Western team in the earlier days of the company. Paul’s wide range of testing and balancing experience includes industrial buildings, correctional facilities, restaurants, schools, university buildings, commercial high rises, air terminal buildings and generating plants.
James Moore , assistant office manager, divides his time between administrative assistance to the office manager and keeping the balancing reports flowing to clients. He has years of experience in computer-aided drafting and produces schematic drawings that form part of the balancing reports. James is also the resident computer technical expert who troubleshoots, analyzes and resolves network problems or individual computer issues.
Western Mechanical Services was retained to provide commissioning services for the $ 300 million, 28986 sq meter (312,000 sq ft) award winning Patient Care Centre at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, which opened in March, 2011 to replace all 400 existing beds and to add an additional 120 beds, most of which are private. The building was designed to utilize energy-efficient equipment and sustainable materials, resources and mechanical systems, to achieve LEED Gold certification, based on a target score of 39 to 42 LEED points.
