Metro Waste Paper Recovery Inc. (MWPR) collects and processes over 200,000 tonnes per month of paper fibre and other commodities. It manages an additional 18,000 tonnes/month in brokerage. In total, MWPR handles over 2 million tonnes/year.


Metro Waste Paper Recovery Inc. is a comprehensive waste management company operating two plants in the Greater Toronto Area and one plant in Ottawa, three plants in New York State, as well as plants in Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna,Prince George, Vancouver, Victoria, and Surrey. All the plants are fully equipped with baling, sorting, and storage capacity. In addition, the plants are supported by a transportation division consisting of roll-off units, rear packers, straight trucks, and tractor/trailer vehicles serving in excess of 1,200 industrial, commercial and institutional waste generators.


Cascades Paperboard International and Metro Waste Paper Recovery Inc. entered into a joint venture agreement. This joint venture secured MWPR's ability to effectively manage the paper fibre waste stream, from both an operational and a marketing standpoint. Cascades' Toronto mill, Paperboard Industries, has recently spent millions of dollars on new technology that will allow them to use mixed residential paper fibre. Consequently, the mill's demand for this product is extremely high and as agents for Paperboard, MWPR needs more paper fibre.


With regards to residential recycling experience, MWPR, through its plant in Ottawa, is currently receiving and marketing residential recycling materials for Waste Management Inc. (WMI). WMI collects curbside material under contract for Communauté Urbaine de l'Outaouais. All the fibre is sold to Paperboard Industries Corporation in Toronto. In addition to handling residential materials at their Ottawa location, MWPR's brokerage department moves a substantial amount of residential paper fibre tonnage form outside suppliers.
