McInnes Cooper collects personal information in order to provide legal services and products to you. In addition, we distribute publications and offer seminars concerning legal developments, which we provide as a service to you and others in the business community.
While I had expected to work among some of Canada’s most talented lawyers and have a high quality learning experience, the summer student program still exceeded my expectations. By rotating to a different practice area each month, I gained insight into the breadth of possible legal careers. Furthermore, the firm was dedicated to ensuring that students have diverse experiences throughout the summer. I sat in on client meetings, drafted documents, prepared research memos, observed a human rights resolution conference and attended a human rights hearing.
McInnes Cooper’s objective is to provide articled clerks and students-at-law with comprehensive, high quality training in the practice of law. We add the experience of seasoned barristers and solicitors to the legal knowledge our clerks bring with them to the firm. McInnes Cooper’s professional development staff is dedicated to the growth and education of our clerks and lawyers. We know that work/life balance is important to our lawyers and clerks, so we make an effort to encourage and support the varied interests of our lawyers and clerks outside the office as well.
We know that today’s technology means that lawyers, and more importantly clients, need to work at high speeds, so we are especially dedicated to providing our students with the most useful and innovative tools available. We provide our students and clerks with firm laptops that allow them to be mobile. Returning law students can take their firm laptop back to law school to use during second and third year. Associates are given the option of carrying a blackberry.
Each Lex Mundi member is an elite firm in its jurisdiction. Potential members are evaluated on quality, responsiveness, ability to provide a full range of legal services, reputation, technology, management structure, ethical standards, conflict avoidance procedures, size, court admissions and other criteria. Each member firm is admitted only after substantial due diligence, and must undergo regular quality and peer review procedures in order to retain membership in the association.
