IOCCG is an international group of experts dedicated to advancing the science and technology behind remote sensing of ocean colour across diverse aquatic environments, including inland, coastal, and open ocean waters. Founded in 1996 under UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, IOCCG coordinates activities, provides training, facilitates communication between space agencies and scientific users, advocates for ocean colour research, and offers expert advice. The organization supports global consensus on satellite ocean colour radiometry, hosts specialized scientific working groups, and ensures dataset continuity through the CEOS OCR-Virtual Constellation. IOCCG also organizes worldwide training sessions and convenes the International Ocean Colour Science meeting, with support from national space agencies and the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Canada.
