When William Wright Ingledew founded Ingledew's Shoes in Vancouver in 1915, he made quality footwear, a vast range of fittings, and exceptional service the cornerstones of his business. Ninety years later, the family owned and operated company, now in the fourth generation of Ingledews management, has grown from one store on Granville Street to twelve stores in British Columbia; consisting of nine Ingledew's Stores, one Ingledew's Shoe Rack Clearance Centre, and two Rockport Stores in the Lower Mainland. Ingledew's calls Victoria and Kelowna home, too, with a store in each city. At the time Ingledew's first opened, choices in footwear styles were limited and predominantly classic dress shoes. However, Mr. Ingledew quickly observed that his customers enjoyed having a selection of shoes in one store. He revolutionized the shoe store concept by offering customers an unparalleled assortment of styles, sizes and widths. People loved it: Ingledew's became THE place to shop. From the beginning, we have tried to listen to what our customers value and have made every effort too satisfy their needs. As they've changed, so have we. When many of our customers moved to the suburbs, we followed and opened stores closer to their neighbourhoods.
