Bonnie is the President of Pascall Management Services Inc. and volunteer Board member for Hospice Calgary. Bonnie has volunteered her time with Hospice Calgary for over 12 years and has served as a Foundation Board member, Society Board member, and as Board Human Resources Committee Chair. During this time, Bonnie has been ‘the mainstay’ for Hospice Calgary, working to develop the capacity for HR management and stabilize the agency when facing immediate employee issues. She has led the entire organization in the creation of an internal HR infrastructure.

Todd Basset defines himself as a career learner. With over 25 years of leadership experience in human resources and business management, Todd has contributed his expertise to the financial services and investment industry and the public sector. Currently, Todd is the Human Resources Business Partner for Community Services & Protective Services at The City of Calgary and a part-time instructor of Human Resources Strategy at Mount Royal University (MRU). He has authored an HR Strategy course for MRU and serves on the HR Management Extension Certificate Program Advisory Committee.

One of the greatest concerns of any unregulated profession is the risk to the public of unscrupulous practitioners. As a self-regulated profession, we will be entrusted with “protecting the public” from incompetent practise or work related to the HR profession through self-policing. Instead of the Alberta government regulating the actions of HRIA members directly, the HRIA will be mandated with ensuring that qualified professionals are providing trusted services to all their stakeholders.

A number of provinces have had varying experience requirements for years. The introduction of a standard national requirement ensures that individuals who are granted the CHRP designation have both the knowledge and experience to practice in the field of human resources. It also ensures that a common standard is met across the country. The CHRP experience requirement is established in compliance with the national guidelines of the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA).

Chris Sopal is a human resources professional with over 15 years’ experience in both private and public practice. He currently works as the Human Resources Manager for Woodman White & Associates, a Certified General Accounting Firm in Lethbridge, where he provides HR advice to small and medium size business clients. Prior to that, he worked as an Administrator for the Wapiti Regional Library in Saskatchewan and as a Manager for the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region.
