F.E.A.T of B.C. is a non-profit, volunteer organization of parents and concerned professionals working for universal access to effective autism treatment for all children diagnosed with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders. F.E.A.T. of B.C. accepts no money from the government. All financial contributions to F.E.A.T. of B.C. go toward the work of making effective autism treatment available to everyone regardless of ability to pay. The Executive Director and Founder of F.E.A.T. of B.C., S.K. Freeman, Ph.D., is a parent of a child with autism. Dr. Freeman holds a degree in sociology from Stanford University and is publisher. Dr. Freeman is also the case manager for her daughter's autism treatment program - an intensive behavioral reatment based on the advancements achieved through the work of Dr. Ivar Lovaas. Lovaas-type behavioral therapy has worked so well that Dr. Freeman established F.E.A.T. of B.C. to help other children benefit from the leading edge methods used so effectively with her child. F.E.A.T. of B.C was established for another important reason - to publicize discrimination in B.C. against children with autism. Specifically, it is wrong that children with physical disabilities have access to government health insurance coverage, yet children with the mental, neurological disability of autism do not receive treatment.
