FIRM The architectural firm was established in 1960 by Wilfred D. Buttjes. Since its inception, the firm has provided efficient, professional and personal service to private, corporate and institutional clients from Canada, United States and overseas. In 1969, the firm was the recipient of two Canadian Housing Design awards and in 1970, received Canada's prestigious Massey Medal for Architecture in the multi-family residential category. By 1975, the office's growing assignments led to major commissions and to the formation of a multi-disciplinary team under the name of The Buttjes Group, Architects and Urban Planners. Dirk Buttjes joined the firm in 1981, after completing a Master of Architecture degree at the University of Colorado, in Denver, Colorado. He established the firm Buttjes Architecture, inc. (BAi), in 1987 to continue the tradition of providing an exceptional level of architectural expertise both in the field of high rise/low rise multi-family residential and commercial developments. Dirk has earned a reputation for bringing large, complex mixed use projects successfully to reality. He is a practicing member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia, the Alberta Association of Architects and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. BAi strives for creative, responsive solutions that not only achieve the aspirations and goals of the client but also to enrich the broader scope of our built environment. Influences that help shape each project arise from site, context, client, budget, environmental concerns and authorities. The firm's ability to translate conceptual ideas into a sophisticated and refined reality is derived from the diverse talents and expertise of the BAi team.
