Description

The Advocacy Centre for the Elderly (ACE) is a specialty community legal clinic that was established to provide a range of legal services to low-income seniors in Ontario. The legal services include advice and representation to individual and group clients, public legal education, law reform and community development activities. ACE has been operating since 1984.

If you are calling when our office is closed and you require urgent legal advice, you may contact the Law Society Referral Service at 1-800-268-8326 or (416) 947-3330 (within the General Toronto Area). The Law Society Referral Service is designed to provide callers with up to 30 minutes of consultation either by phone or in person at no charge. A Legal Information Officer will receive the call and assess the needs of the client and then provide the name of a lawyer or paralegal who best fits the client's stated needs.

ACE serves people 60 years of age and over in the Greater Toronto Area, and may also provide services to seniors outside of Toronto if the case is of significance to the seniors' community. ACE also works with the local community clinics across the province to provide legal services to seniors living in these other locations.

All the staff provide direct client services although each has a primary area of responsibility. The lawyers include an Executive Director who, along with the Office Manager, is responsible for the operational management of the clinic. Two of the lawyers are primarily responsible for the client intake service and any litigation. Our research lawyer is mainly responsible for conducting legal research, as well as maintaining the ACE publications and website.

The Advocacy Centre for the Elderly is committed to upholding the rights of low-income seniors. Its purpose is to improve the quality of life of seniors by providing legal services which include direct client assistance, public legal education, law reform, community development and community organizing.
