Then donate to the Yahoo! Employee Foundation. With come-ons like this, the Yahoo! Employee Foundation just wrapped up another successful fundraising campaign, with contributions from U.S. Yahoos who were challenged to dig deep to do good. Over the past 10 years, the Yahoo! Employee Foundation has collected and donated millions of dollars to hundreds of charitable organizations, including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society , Project Angel Food , and several chapters of Big Brothers Big Sisters . Every dollar comes directly from Yahoo! employees who participate in team challenges, egging on each other's donations. This year the challenges ranged from an opportunity to win iPads, Xboxes, and vintage Hack Day T-shirts, to a chance to have dinner with CEO Carol Bartz. The biggest incentive came from Yahoo! founders Jerry Yang and David Filo , who pledged to kick in a cool $1 million if 60% of employees participated in the program, up from 57% in 2009. Guess what, Jerry and David: We hit 61% "” so pay up! The charities funded by the Yahoo! Employee Foundation are selected by the donors. Any Yahoo who contributed a minimum of $50 can advocate for their favorite nonprofit, and grant amounts can be as high as $40,000. In 2009 we raised and distributed more than $2 million to 96 organizations that serve employee-chosen charities for youth and education, families and communities, and the environment. While it's fun to win an iPad and add to the T-shirt pile, the impact of the contributions is meaningful, with nearly 500,000 people served by Yahoo! Employee Foundation donations in 2009 alone. We thank everyone who donated, everyone who encouraged others to donate, and the execs who now have to pay up because we exceeded our challenge goals.
