The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Ontario Division) is pleased to announce the release of the 2007 Thoroughbred Improvement Program (TIP). This coming after negotiations with Woodbine Entertainment Group, Fort Erie Racetrack, the HBPA and the approval of the industry regulator the Ontario Racing Commission. Established to promote the breeding and racing of Ontario-Bred and Canadian-Bred horses in Ontario, the TIP program features awards, bonuses and purse money worth $9.3 million. "The TIP program has been designed to support our Ontario breeders, and through this year's program, we will be putting $9.3 million back into our industry," said Julie Coulter, General Manager of the CTHS (Ontario Division). "While TIP funding for most 2007 Stakes races remains consistent with last year's purses, this year's program will be directed toward increased incentives for Ontario-bred horses." The TIP program supplements a wide number of incentives by supporting the purses of Stakes races, including the Triple Crown, Triple Tiara, Ontario Sires Stakes, Ontario-Bred and Canadian-Bred Stakes, as well as Breeder and Stallion Awards. This year TIP's funding of $100,000 toward the Bison City Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Tiara, valued at $250,000, will be allocated to Woodbine Racetrack. "Due to some restructuring on their part, Fort Erie requested that the Bison City be moved to Woodbine," said Coulter. "However, we were successful in being able to increase our TIP funding of the 2007 Prince of Wales to avail Fort Erie the ability to continue running the second leg of the prestigious Triple Crown at their track." Highlights include a 16 percent increase to the Breeders Awards program valued at $2.9 million, with a focus not only on local Graded Stakes, but also on Graded Stakes winners outside of the province.
