To commemorate our 10th Anniversary we are featuring 10 Filmmakers in the Spotlight, a celebration of ten Canadian filmmakers who inspire through their art, embody important voices in the Canadian cinematic landscape and are shining examples of what we want the Whistler Film Festival to be all about. Throughout the last ten years, we have seen more than 600 filmmakers present their films to audiences in Whistler. Many have returned time and time again, evolving as artists and achieving critical success on their way. Each of the 10 Filmmakers in the Spotlight has played a role in the success of the first decade of the Whistler Film Festival. Each has presented films at the Festival, some on multiple occasions, and some have participated on juries and industry events. Each of our Spotlight Filmmakers are participating in some way at this year's festival. Some returning with films, some on juries and a few to be a part of the celebration. You wil see that the Festival's 10th anniversary commemorative program includes a page dedicated to each filmmaker, their backgrounds, their work and their position on what filmmaking in the 21st century means to them. We will also formally acknowledge them on December 3 at the Whistler Conference Centre at the top of our Tribute event, which will honor legendary independent filmmakers Monte Hellman (Two-Lane Blacktop, Cockfighter) and Bruce McDonald (Hard Core Logo, Highway 61) who will each receive a special tribute for lifetime achievements. I can't think of a better way to celebrate our 10th anniversary than by showcasing the country's most inspiring creative minds in the independent film community.. We are thrilled to have these cinematic icons share their passion for film with us and inspire the next generation of artists and movie buffs around the world.
