WALSH INTEGRATED ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS Inc. (Walsh) is a multifunctional supplier of environmental services and technologies to the industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) markets in Canada and the United States. Walsh helps hospitals and other private and public sector organizations achieve their environmental and cost reduction objectives.

Waste disposal costs money. Misdirected waste disposal can cost even more -- up to 60% more in the case of some hospitals where waste stream audits reveal too many instances of pizza boxes, and clean gloves casually tossed into red bags intended for biomedical waste. 


Healthcare professionals are acutely aware of the importance of segregating sharps and Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) from regular trash (solid waste) ... primarily for health and safety reasons. However, economic reasons are just as compelling.  Consider that solid waste disposal costs anywhere from 1 to 5 cents a pound, and red bag disposal costs 20 to 50 cents a pound.  Every misdirected toss of paper, packaging and IV bags adds up to a huge and unnecessary expense.


Over the last 5 years, Walsh Environmental has performed hundreds of medical waste audits.  These have revealed that in most hospitals, those expensive-to-dispose-of red bags actually contain as much as 60% solid waste... paper, packaging material, disposable cups, non-bloody gowns and gloves.  The Walsh Waste Tracker system has helped hospitals remedy the situation and has saved 35% to 50% and more on their disposal costs.


The Waste Tracker is a waste management system designed specifically for hospitals.  Developed in 1994 by Walsh Integrated Environmental Systems Inc., The Waste Tracker System is a cutting edge computerized monitoring program that allows hospitals to audit and control in-house waste handling for maximum efficiency.


The core technology is a palm-top computer with an integrated digital camera that is used to store visual and written records of misdirected waste or potentially dangerous disposal  practices.  It is pre-programmed for easy data entry via a touch screen.  Reports and emails are automatically generated and sent out to responsible parties.  An email with a color photo of trash in the red bag waste, or a loose needle in the trash gets people's attention pretty fast!


A key component of the Waste Tracker System is our In Service and Support Program, which teaches and promotes safe disposal practices.  In-service sessions are part of a comprehensive marketing and support program designed to sensitize every person who generates or handles Regulated Medical Waste.


Walsh also offers quality assurance programs in the healthcare and construction industries. Auditing the cleanliness of a facilty, safety of a facility or construction site.


The Walsh Quality Support System "QSS" is a handheld based quality assurance program used by hospitals Environmental Management/Housekeeping departments to inspect the cleanliness of their facility. All information is collected on a handheld computer, photos, notes and comments are recorded and data is instaneously sent via the web to be accessed through a secure Internet connection to view, print, and/or e-mail repair requisitions, reports and graphs, or maintain the facilitys’ database.


The Walsh Safety Management System "SMS" enables one to control and improve facility safety. Using Walsh’s handheld SMS gives users the power to accurately record and track issues and infractions and follow them to a quick conclusion.


Walsh’s Administrative Rounds Tracker "ART" is a group tool used by the Administrative rounds team or Environmental rounds team. Using handheld PCs and centralized reporting, Admin rounds process will be faster and more efficient. The Walsh’s handheld Administrative Rounds Tracker (ART) allows users to accurately record and track issues and infractions and follow them to a quick conclusion.


The Walsh Safety Leader is a computer program that tracks and reports on safety issues and compliance on construction job sites. Safety Leader is based around OSHA code 1926 and is used by Construction Management firms, Multi-Nationals, and Contractors to reduce accidents and facilitate reporting and compliance.
