Description
Dana Whelan has worked with children for over 9 years. Having first starting out at summer day camps at the JCC to then working as a substitute and assistant in the various daycares and preschools in the community centre she realized that working with children was her passion. Seeing their creativity and development flourish truly makes her happy. After her time at the JCC, Dana then moved to work at Talmud Torah as the general studies teacher and worked as an assistant as she went to school in the evening at Vancouver Community College and graduated the program in 2010. After 5 years at Talmud Torah, Miss Dana is very enthusiastic to start teaching preschool at Vancouver Hebrew Academy working along side Ms. Devorah Brody.
As our community has grown and evolved, so has our school. In an effort to ensure that we continue to offer our children the very highest quality educational program, the leadership of VHA, in cooperation with the broader Vancouver community, has undertaken an ambitious and comprehensive strategic planning process. Through a partnership with Yeshiva University, we have created a blueprint that will help VHA strive for unparalleled excellence in every area of our program.
Yvonne Myers has been in Vancouver for over 10 years after moving here from New York. She recently joined the Vancouver Hebrew Academy and is looking forward to her first full year. She enjoys writing, dance, theatre and film. She will be attending the City University of Seattle to obtain her Masters in Counselling starting in the fall. After work, she will be volunteering at the Boys and Girls of Vancouver. She wishes everyone an exciting year of learning!.
VHA’s Judaic studies program is designed to give students the confidence, skills and desire to live as Jews and to encourage a lifelong interest in Jewish learning. The skills-based curriculum has been developed within the framework of the school’s education philosophy to meet the diverse needs of our school community. Our goal is to provide the essential tools our students will need to allow them to continue and achieve success in their Jewish education through high school and beyond, in both formal and informal settings. Students study Chumash (Bible), Halacha (Jewish law), Jewish holidays and customs, Jewish History, Mishna, Talmud and Hebrew language. The Hebrew language curriculum is a comprehensive language acquisition program. It will also serve as the foundation the BC Ministry of Education’s Integrated Resource Package (IRP) for Hebrew as a Second Language.
Vancouver Hebrew Academy is an Orthodox Jewish elementary school for students in Preschool through Grade 7. We provide an exciting and stimulating educational environment where children are inspired to a lifelong passion for learning, academic excellence, devotion to Torah Judaism, and a love for and commitment to Israel.
