The Appraisal Institute of Canada, founded in 1938, is the national professional institute of real estate appraisers in Canada. The membership of approximately 7,000 is dedicated to high and uniform standards of appraisal practise.

The American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers was founded in 1929 and is headquartered in Denver, Colorado. There are a total of 37 chapters affiliated with the Society and more than 20 working committees which contribute to the policies and operations of the organization. There are over 3,300 A.S.F.M.R.A. members in the United States and Canada.

The CRF designation qualifies those individuals in real estate finance who have successfully completed the comprehensive programme of specialty courses; who have five years of approved experience in real estate finance; and, whose ethical conduct warrants such distinction.

In 1941, the Association of Assessing Officers of Ontario was formed which in turn created the Institute of Municipal Assessors in 1954 as its education wing. The Institute was incorporated in 1957 and in 1968 become the professional organization for assessors in Ontario. In 1987, the Institute was the subject of a Private Member's Bill in the Ontario Legislature which protects its designations. Members of the Institute are employed in both the public and private sectors.
