There will be a number of factors to consider in this decision. One legitimate view is that insurance is there to protect you from significant unforeseen losses. If this view is accepted then damage which is only one or two hundred dollars over the collision deductible is not significant and it may be best to keep your relationship with the insurance company strong and not claim a relatively small amount. The decisions become more involved with damage that is many hundreds or even thousands over you deductible. In most cases it is better to let the insurance company handle these claims if your claim record to that point is clean. If it is not then it may be cost effective to pay even these higher dollar incidents yourself. We can help in all cases, and particularly with these more expensive claims, by giving you a good preliminary estimate which will provide enough detail for you to talk to the insurance company and make a decision. In cases where the final cost is high but cannot be exactly known before the work starts we can work with the insurance company to keep them aware of the repair.
