Description
Singsation Saturdays are choral workshops for everyone who loves to sing, no matter the level. Participants join with guest conductors and some TMC choristers to explore an exciting range of master choral works -- everything from beloved works written by the great classical composers, to contemporary works, and, on a lighter side, Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. Noted local conductors share insight into the works and broaden our understanding of the composer's artistic vision and the historic context in which the composition was created. There is a break with fruit, doughnuts, coffee and tea, and a chance to meet the conductor and visit with other choristers. During our successful 2009-10 season, between 70 and 100 singers joined us for each workshop. Add your voice to these great events in 2010-11. 2010-2011 Singsation Saturday Schedule Singsation Saturday workshops take place on the dates below, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, 1585 Yonge Street, in Cameron Hall. Please enter through the glass doors marked "Yorkminster Park Centre" to the north of the main Church entrance. The cost is $10.00 per session. You can register at the workshop. How do I get to Yorkminster Park Baptist Church? Get an early start on a great holiday tradition - Handel's Messiah. Ivar Taurins, Director of the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir will lead Singsation participants in choruses from Messiah. Handel's Messiah is an important part of the Toronto holiday season. Both Tafelmusik and the TMC have annual performances of this masterpiece. Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir will perform Messiah on Dec. 15-18 at Trinity-St. Paul's and the sing-along version on Dec. 19 at Massey Hall. TMC and the TSO will perform a grandly scaled Messiah, conducted by Sir Andrew Davis, on Dec. 16, 18, 19, 20, 21 at Roy Thomson Hall.
