Frederick J. Thompson is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He began his career as a life insurance actuary in the early 60's. In more than forty years of experience Mr. Thompson has enjoyed a career that has taken him from being Vice President and Actuary of a prominent Canadian insurance company, to the founding of financial firm ECC; joining WM Mercer as Principal, to becoming a founding partner in Thompson Tomev Actuarial. Mr. Thompson has served small to medium sized corporations in a 'boutique' actuarial consulting environment as well as some of the largest corporations in Canada as a principal consultant with the world's largest actuarial consulting firm. Apart from his experience in the insurance, finance and pensions business, Mr. Thompson is also active in the professional organizations that regulate and organize Actuaries in both Canada and the US. Mr. Thompson is a past Director, Councilor, Committee Member and Committee Chair of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) as well as past President of the Actuaries Club of Toronto. Mr. Thompson's involvement with the CIA began in the early 70's, when he served on the Education and Examinations Tutorial Subcommittee from 1971-1973. In 2002 Mr. Thompson was awarded the CIA's Silver Volunteer Recognition award, and remains active in the Institute as a recent nominee for election to President in 2010. Mr. Thompson's integrity and client-focused approach to the pensions business are legendary. He has always sought to provide the highest level of value to his clients and plan members with cost-effective and innovative solutions. His knowledge of the Canadian pensions and investment business is extraordinary, and this has enabled him to develop efficient and effective products that have aided many Canadians in achieving their lifetime financial goals. Mr. Tomev began his career with Alexander Consulting (Now AON), where he developed expertise in actuarial financial management as well as executive arrangements and plan design for both pension and non-pension future obligations. While with AON Mr. Tomev achieved the designation of Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. In 2000 Mr. Tomev left AON to take a more senior role at Avalon, a mid-sized actuarial consulting firm based in Montreal. Mr. Tomev was responsible for developing and implementing actuarial practice in Toronto, and as the leading consultant he provided actuarial services for various corporate pension plans while assisting in plan design for numerous clients. Under Mr. Tomev's direction Avalon enjoyed rapid growth in these businesses. Mr. Tomev then joined Thompson Tomev Actuarial in 2006 as a full partner.
