Theatrix Costume House has been serving Toronto's costume needs since our founding in 1965. They started out as a little shop called Catherwoods in the middle of the "hippie" district on Yonge Street. When Warren Hughes took over, they soon needed more space. During the early 1970's, we moved to King Street. The area soon developed into a thriving, internationally renowned entertainment district. As the theatre community grew, we did also. Since the 1980's, when the film industry moved into Toronto, we have been providing costumes to both film and television. In 1995 Warren decided to retire. He sold the company to Peter deVita who had been operating the ever successful Sugar's Costume Studio on Mt. Pleasant Rd. for more than 10 years. With his daughter Jennifer, Peter expanded this family business and making the immediate move onto the World Wide Web. Since this time, Theatrix Costume House has actively sought to increase the rental stock in the pursuit of providing excellent professional costumes for reasonable prices to professional & community theatre groups, the film & television industry, event planners, & party-goers. In the new millennium, Theatrix expanded on the theatre services that Warren initiated and made the move to export theatre shows for rent! Theatrix Costume House has built a reputation for providing full service costume rentals & sales and for providing excellent costumes across North America and the world.
