It is an exciting time to enter the field of hypnotherapy and complimentary health care in general. There have been countless university studies and clinical trials documenting the efficacy of hypnotherapy in pain management, childbirth, dental work, hypno-anesthesia, irritable bowel syndrome, post traumatic stress disorder, smoking cessation and much more. We recognize the potential uses of hypnotherapy with clients and patients but a student needs excellent training and skills to be able to work at this high level of competency. There are many hypnosis courses available and some fill a particular area of hypnotherapy but may be lacking in other very important areas. This is of huge concern to me as many students unknowingly sign up for a course that will not give them the level of training needed to work with excellence in this fascinating field. Hypnotherapy is an unregulated field in Canada. There is no standardized training or governing body that regulates hypnotherapy. That is why it is of such importance that a potential student does their homework when looking for excellent hypnotherapy education so they will not be misled.

Prospective Students of PIAH, I recently graduated from the Pacific Institute of Advanced Hypnotherapy (PIAH) and would like to take this opportunity to share some information that I hope you’ll find helpful in your selection of PIAH for your hypnotherapy training. In my full time position as a clinical counselor, I was looking for some training that would assist me in providing more efficient service to my clients. Although I had completed graduate work in counselling, and have twenty years experience in the fields of mental health and forensic assessments, I was finding that, for some clients, regular counselling required too great a time (and money) commitment for anxiety treatment; many clients could not afford the number of sessions necessary to effectively resolve anxieties/phobias using the conventional talk therapies in which I was trained (such as CBT, DBT, IPT, etc). I had read about the benefits of hypnotherapy for anxiety and other issues, and began an extensive search into training programs.

I became interested in hypnotherapy after receiving life-changing therapy as a client. One day I picked up a newspaper and read an article by a hypnotherapist that caught my attention. I had been struggling with the symptoms of a major trauma that happened in my life when I was fifteen years old. I did not know if hypnotherapy could help me but I decided to trust my feelings and go with it. I booked a consultation and from there I received six therapeutic sessions. I knew that my life was shifting after the first session. I continued to make monumental progress through the subsequent sessions and beyond. Hypnotherapy helped facilitate authentic healing in my life and it helped me to move ahead without the heavy burdens that I had been carrying for years. At that point, I did not realize that I would become a Clinical Hypnotherapist let alone a Hypnotherapy educator. I simply felt that my life was given back to me. I felt that I was just starting to live fully. In the same way when you purchase a new red car and then see red cars everywhere, it seemed that every time I opened a magazine or a book, there was something about hypnosis or hypnotherapy inside.has personally designed and written the curriculum from her many years experience in full-time private practice.
