Description

The latest edition of NFPA 51B (2009), Fire Prevention During Welding, Cutting and Other Hot Work Standard, now requires that welding blankets, curtains and pads for hot work operations be "listed or approved." Fabrics that are approved to the ANSI/FM4950 Standard for Welding Curtains, Welding Blankets and Welding Pads for Hot Work Operations meet the "approved" requirement of NFPA 51B. ANSI/FM4950 is a 3rd party certification which helps eliminate potential product issues that have scandalized the North American Society in Consumer Products. ANSI/FM 4950 has now received the Standards Council of Canada Accreditation. Background: In the interest of worker safety and fire hazard reduction, FM Approvals, part of the FM Global enterprise, developed a safety performance rating for welding pads, welding blankets and welding curtains used in hot work operations – FM Approval Standard 4950. Customer demand for better guidance in the development of more uniform corporate hot work management policies led to the development and prompt implementation of the ANSI/FM4950, which is now considered to be the most comprehensive certification program for hot works operations. Under the standard, hot work products are grouped into three categories according to 'severity of use' in the various types of hot works operations. It is quite impractical and may be unsafe for suppliers to provide a single product for all anticipated hot work uses and environments. In January of 2009, ANSI/MF4950 became recognized by the Standards Council of Canada as an "Other Recognized Document" (ORD). What this means is that Tempro Tec's FM Approved products meet Canadian Codes & Standards as Welding Pads, Welding Blankets and Welding Curtains for hot work operations.
