Synex Energy was established in 1984 to meet the needs of businesses and communities that required technical and financial assistance to develop energy projects. The range of projects includes hydropower, diesel generation, powerlines, utility operation and cogeneration and thermal facilities.

Synex International Inc is a public company trading on The Toronto Stock Exchange since 1987. There are two wholly owned subsidiary companies: Synex Energy Resources Ltd ( the Energy Division); Sigma Engineering Ltd (the Engineering Division).

Sigma Engineering has a 24-year history of providing consulting services for the control and use of water, including the design of hydroelectric and other power generation facilities; hydrology; and water related environmental assessments. The competency of the Engineering Division in the planning and design of hydroelectric plants provides a competitive advantage for the Energy Division.

Since 1973, Sigma Engineering Ltd has provided innovative and practical solutions for the control and use of water as well as related developments requiring civil, water resource, and environmental engineering expertise. Projects have been mainly in the fields of hydrology, river engineering, fisheries and environmental assessment, water quality, site development services, water supply, hydro power, wastewater treatment and disposal, flood control, and storm water management.

The origin of the Company can be traced to the high-energy prices of the early 1980's and the Federal Government initiative (the Remote Community Demonstration Program) which was established to identify and assist remote communities with energy problems. It soon became apparent that many communities had viable energy supply options but that financing of such projects was beyond the capability of the communities and traditional sources of funding. A company with technical expertise, access to capital markets and the stability to undertake long-term projects was required.
