TIPS AND TRICKS 1. To help guard against scratches and dents, place protective pads under furniture legs and chairs. Make sure they're large enough to distribute weight evenly. Use at least 1" wide soft vinyl or felt pads when necessary. 2. Rearrange rugs and furniture periodically, so the floor ages evenly. The sun's ultraviolet rays can age all wood products. 3. Remove spills promptly. For dry spills, vacuum or sweep floor immediately. 4. Sweep or vacuum floor regularly. The cleaner head must be brush or felt. Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar. Be especially careful with light-colored floors. 5. Oils from asphalt driveways or roads will tend to leave a stain. Be sure to clean shoes and entry mats well. 6. Keep animal nails trimmed. Large animals tend to scratch finishes. 7. When moving heavy appliances or furniture, never slide or roll them without first putting down a sheet of plywood and use a dolly. 8. It is a good idea to refinish the floor before the wear has got through to the wood, and is still on the existing finish. This makes the floor last longer because you are just replacing finish, not actually removing wood. 9. Avoid high heels. They can severely damage the surface of any floor covering. Always keep heel caps in good repair. 10. Never wet mop a wood floor. This can cause the floor to swell and cup. Use a slightly damp mop to clean your floors. 11. Never place potted plants in contact with your flooring, even if they are on waterproof saucers. Condensation can develop under these and damage your flooring.
