DEBBIE'S STORY Debbie was diagnosed with Stage IIA breast cancer in March 2000. At that time, she was nursing her three month old son and also had two young daughters who were aged 4 and 7. Debbie found the lump in her lower breast and went to her doctor immediately. She was assured that is was probably a clogged milk duct from breast feeding and was put on antibiotics. Upon further testing which included a needle biopsy and a core biopsy, it was confirmed that it was Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Her surgery, a lumpectomy and lymph node dissection, was scheduled for mid-April. All the while, Debbie put on a brave front for her children so they would not worry. She did not want to scare them, although she was scared herself. After her surgery, it was confirmed that her tumor was categorized as stage II due to its size but her lymph nodes were clear of any cancer. Debbie and her husband, Ron met with the Oncologist to discuss her options for survival. After much discussion, it was decided that she would undergo Chemotherapy followed by Radiation. Debbie's attitude was 'give me what you've got to beat this thing'. She was given the strongest form of Chemo available to her with radiation which included a 5 day 'booster' dose. This was a very difficult and challenging time for Debbie and her family. Ron took charge of everything to ensure that Debbie received the best possible care. He became her 'Rock' and to this day, is her very best friend and soul mate. Debbie and Ron's support network of immediate family and close friends were important during this time, and continue to be a source of comfort and enjoyment. You find out who truly loves you when you a facing such a difficult situation. When Debbie was approaching her 40th birthday and her five year survival, she was feeling inspired that she was on the road to recovery and wanted to celebrate with a nice piece of jewellery. She was unable to find anything that was pretty and of good quality, so she decided to make a bracelet for herself. After many hours of designing, she created The Stardust Bracelet of Inspiration. She was proud of it and told Ron that she wished she had this pretty bracelet when she was battling the cancer. Ron thought it was very beautiful for Debbie, and wanted to promote the bracelet through his company. He also wanted to provide the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation with an ongoing donation to help in the fight against breast cancer. Ron approached the Foundation with Debbie's story and her bracelet and are now happy to be featured on the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundations' website .
