Description
OrchestraCMS, our flagship product has been on the market for 9 months, been through 3 major releases and is now running dozens of websites in over 100 companies around the world. One of the last questions we get asked before larger organizations buy OrchestraCMS is, "With OrchestraCMS being such a young product and your company being largely unknown, how do I know you'll be around in the future?". Of course, this is a great question and one that reflects someone doing solid due diligence on behalf of their company. The short answer I give is that we've been around for 18 years, delivered over $300 million in advanced IT solutions to over 170 companies with a 95+% customer loyalty rate. Our largest project was the design and implementation of the largest SPARC-based supercomputer in the world (HPCVL) and our last project IT infrastructure project was designing and implementing the platform for a $33 million Peoplesoft ERP environement. In the Cloud Computing world, most integration partners have been working with small to medium businesses and grown into larger enterprises, following the path that the Cloud has taken. We started and worked in medium to large Enterprises throughout our history, so we're a little unique...in the Cloud context. Having said all of that, it caused me to ponder about how a company ends up doing what we're doing today, from designing, implementing and managing large IT infrastructure in the past. I think it comes from the idea that there is a core part of us that has always been a start up. We became intrigued with the Force.com platform and adopted it to run our business in 2003. While we were focused on providing the expertise and stability needed to deliver mission critical IT solutions, Force.com, and other technologies along the way, provided the opportunity to explore and use emerging technologies internally. In that vein, I would pose the following question to any organization today, especially IT organizations: "What part of your organization represents the start-up?" So many business models are being destroyed and many more are emerging in an increasingly volatile and chaotic economic environment. I believe that every part of every organization needs a 'pipeline' of innovative ideas and business models that can be deployed as shifting markets demand. Human Resources departments are a great example of a staid model that has been in decline for years, and yet the attraction and nurturing of human resources are the fuel for any successful organization today. IT is under serious attack today, not because of the Cloud, but because of a largely operational culture that is the antithesis of innovation. Today the news is filled with stories of businesses losing confidence in the recovery, and yet there are many businesses hiring and growing at record rates. This is all part of the Big Reset. The chaos theorists have always purported that it's easier to create new order out of chaos than to re-order order. If this is true, than there has been no better time in recent memory to start a business or test a new business model.
