Paul Gard has been involved with softball for over 40 years as a player, coach and administrator. One of his crowning achievements as a player was winning the 1981 Canadian Men’s Fastpitch Championship as a member of the Crown Well Oilers from Alberta, and he also played in several World Masters Games. Paul has been involved with NWT Softball for many years, serving as President on two occasions and contributing in many other roles to develop the sport in the Territory.

Ivan has been a registered umpire for over 30 years, and was inducted in the Softball Nova Scotia Hall of Fame in 2001. He has spent many hours instructing at various clinics and supervising umpires, always putting the interests of the program and others before his own.

Frank Hughes (Charlottetown, PEI) started umpiring at the age of 13 and first registered as a Softball Canada umpire in 1977. He umpired at four Canadian Championships before obtaining his Level V certification in 1991, and served as an Umpire-in-Chief or Deputy Umpire-in-Chief at four other Championships. He was also a member of Softball PEI’s executive for over 20 years, holding several positions such as Ladies Director, Umpire-in-Chief, Treasurer and President. Frank was a big contributor to the development of umpires in Prince Edward Island by organizing numerous umpire clinics, and was also frequently involved with local host committees for Canadian Championships in the area. Sadly, Frank passed away on June 24 th , 2012.for over 30 years. As of 2009, there are over 130 countries affiliated with the International Softball Federation. The International Softball Federation (ISF) is the governing body of softball internationally as recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and SportAccord (formerly the General Association of International Sports Federations - GAISF).

Mike Soucy is much more than a softball coach to his community in Irma, Alberta (pop. 457). Mike has been coaching softball for over 15 years sharing his passion for the game and helping to grow the game at all levels. Irma consistently sends teams in most age categories to Provincial Championships in large part due to Mike’s efforts as a coach, manager, fundraiser, groundskeeper, community doer and most of all as an ambassador of the game.
