Description
Hewitt Translation Project In the nineteenth century, Tuscarora scholar J. N. B. Hewitt of the American Bureau of Ethnology conducted extensive research at Six Nations collecting oral history, old stories, traditional names, ceremonies and materials on the Great Law of Peace and the operation of the Confederacy. His field notes and research manuscripts remained in Washington, DC for over 100 years, seen by only a few people from our community. Now, with the dedication of Indigenous studies scholar Dr. Dawn Martin-Hill and others, the archival documents have been copied and are now being reinterpreted by the Indigenous Knowledge Guardians.
Candidates will be provided with knowledge about the main characteristics of a significant number of alternative views of leadership; they will also be assisted in understanding the programs and context within each view developed. Transformational leadership theory will be given special attention and how it specifically pertains to First Nation settings. The skills involved include working with community stakeholders to provide a vision for the school, developing consensus about goals and philosophical dimensions for school improvement and restructuring, providing staff with support, modeling values, conveying high performance expectations, etc. Click the Six Nations Polytechnic 2014-2015 Course Calendar to see a complete listing of courses offered for the 2014-2015 academic year. Applications will be available once program session dates are confirmed.
Deyohahá:ge: provides a balanced platform for Indigenous research and knowledge sharing. The Centre provides for more Indigenous input into research, more respect for Indigenous research protocols and more benefit of research to the local communities. At the same time, local communities benefit from more access into research findings. Deyohahá:ge: is dedicated to sharing what students and scholars have learned and building upon what has already been done to help Indigenous communities recover, preserve and protect the knowledge of their ancestors. Deyohahá:ge: resources and the involvement of the Indigenous Knowledge Guardians provide the critical support needed to extend the impact of Indigenous Knowledge throughout all SNP delivered programs. The institute is now able to offer more programming with a focus on understanding Aboriginal communities and more cultural focused workshops are offered through continuing education. Through these contributions the learning environment is enriched and students succeed.

Consulting on Six Nations Cultural Experience Strategic Plan and upcoming conference. Heather Bomberry and Rick Hill have participated in the planning meeting of the local committee to develop a cultural tourism strategy for Six Nations. SNP also participated in their survey. The issue for SNP is do we want to have Deyohahá:ge: considered a tourist destination in the future. Six Nations Tourism currently calls upon our Centre to provide cultural awareness training for visiting groups and we charge a fee for such services. If we increase our profile and become better prepared to offer a variety of mini-workshops we could generate additional funds for Deyohahá:ge:. In addition, SNP could provide tourism service training for tourist facilities in our area.
