Description
What a ride this production has been. When I read the play late last summer after the season was announced, I thought to myself "wow"¦ this is crazy"¦ I don't know if I get it, but it sure has the ingredients to be something special." It turned out to be one of the scariest yet most enjoyable plays I've been in. Being given the opportunity to sink my teeth into a character like Nigel has been a positive challenge. He didn't jump off the page like a lot of other characters do. On the page he's subtle and seemingly unassuming, yet a key character in this twisted plot. It took me a while, but I feel like by the time we were moving from rehearsals into previews, I had began to figure out what this guy was really about. I have such admiration for the actors I share the stage with. They are extremely talented and have given me no choice but to bump up my game. I've learned a lot through this process that I hope to take with me. Throughout rehearsals, there were a lot of people wondering how the piece would go over and whether or not people would get it. Would they understand what's going on? Were people going to be offended by the language? Once we got on stage, it was clear that we weren't giving the audience the benefit of the doubt. Not only did they get it, they dug it. For the most part, reaction has been very positive. I think it's wonderful that Jackie continues to push the boundaries of our audiences. This was a perfect fit for the studio theatre, and I look forward to the treats that the audience has in store for them next year. Plus, how often do you get to bust out on stage like an 80's punker?
