IDS was founded in 1986 as CPAD Holdings Inc. and, in 1998, acquired Scintrex Limited creating a new fusion of advanced technologies, products and skills.

IDS’ Analytical & Security Division is focused on the development and manufacture of explosives and drug trace detection systems. The Division is developing the next generation of trace chemical detection products aimed at reducing the threat of terrorism and the blight of drug trafficking. The next-generation dual technology-based products meet and exceed industry standards and have been evaluated and accepted for use by leading regulatory bodies like the FAA, UK
DETR (Transec), and Transport Canada. IDS technology is used extensively in aviation, security, anti-terrorism, law enforcement, corrections, and military applications. The core technologies provide the most selective and most sensitive automatic detection process yet developed (capable of detecting target vapors in quantities as low as parts per trillion or particles measured in picograms).
