His work has largely been in the remediation/ waste management field with the nuclear power industry, uranium industry and some chemical industries. Major clients include Atomic Energy of Canada, Ontario Power Generation, Cameco, the Canadian and Ontario governments and Mosaic. Dr. Buchnea's expertise is the licensing of nuclear facilities, the development and supervision of radiation protection programs for workers and the public, the evaluation of different remedial, storage and disposal designs and in the environmental impact assessment and risk analysis for different waste management facilities, contaminated sites and remedial designs. Dr. Buchnea has had experience with various tools used in environmental analysis and dose assessment: RESRAD family of codes, ADDAM air dispersion calculations, Visual MODFLOW, HELP model, Microshield, and MCNP (a Monte Carlo program that can be used for shielding calculations).
