The Saskatchewan Writers ’ Guild requires a permanent part-time Accountant in its Regina office. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining all financial aspects of the organization, including banking, the general ledger and trust accounts. This position reports to the Executive Director and requires an individual experienced in account reconciliation; preparation of month, year-end and other reports; and audit preparation. You will also provide assistance in the preparation of the annual operating budget. The position offers a 15 hour work week, with full benefits after three months. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications, to start immediately. Applicants should be a graduate of a recognized accounting program and/or have extensive experience in general accounting and must be detail oriented. The successful candidate will have strong organizational and communications skills with the ability to meet deadlines and will have extensive experience with Simply Accounting software. The Executive Director reviews his/her performance. Brief Summary of Responsibilities The Accountant is responsible for ensuring accountability for all funds of the Saskatchewan Writers Guild (SWG) and the SWG Foundation, Inc (SWGF). The Accountant is responsible for maintaining the financial aspects of the organizations, including the general ledger and trust accounts. The Accountant will maintain and develop accurate financial records and effective systems to support SWG/SWGF ’s financial accountability. Key Responsibilities 1. Maintains current and accurate records of SWG ’s and SWGF ’s financial transactions, including all payables, revenues, and personnel obligations. 2. Prepares monthly financial statements for review by the Executive Director, Treasurer, Audit Committee and the SWG Foundation President. 3. Prepares the annual financial statement and ensures that all supporting documentation is prepared and available for the annual audit. 4. Assists staff in the preparation of grant application and follow-up reports, maintaining liaison with appropriate granting agencies as necessary. Prepares the financial components for grant applications as required. 5. Ensures that all financial activities of the SWG are in compliance with instituted policies and procedures and with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 6. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and monitors supporting expenditures. Monitors forecasts throughout the year as required. 7.
