Description

Turicum is a C&C 44 built for ocean passages, and high performance racing/cruising. Her primary specifications are: Length 44' 7', Beam 13'4", Draft 8'9", Displacement 26000lbs, Ballast 8500lbs. The boat is constructed of balsa cored fiberglass. There has been extensive use of unidirectional roving to maximize strength and minimize weight. Turicum is a very safe, high performance, luxury sailboat, easily capable of dealing with any wind/water conditions. (We have sailed her in several situations of 50+kts.) The name TURICUM, while sounding as if it might of West Coast aboriginal origin, is actually the historical Roman/Latin name for Zurich, Switzerland. TURICUM FACILITIES Staterooms: The master stateroom aft has a full size double berth accessible from three sides, an ample hanging locker and generous storage space in drawers, and on shelves. There is a 3/4 length mirror, and direct access to the aft head with shower. The forward stateroom has a private head with shower, a large double V berth, and good storage space in a hanging locker, drawers, and shelves. Cabin & Galley: The main cabin is bright and spacious with seven foot headroom. The Galley to starboard is equipped with a three burner LPG stove and oven, a double refrigerator, hot and cold pressure water, and foot pumps for fresh and sea water in the double stainless steel sink. The navigation station with full instrumentation is to port, as is the aft head. There are two settee berths, and two pilot berths. The fold down table seats eight in comfort. Hot water is supplied to the sinks and radiators by shore power, engine heat exchanger, or Espar boiler. Sailing gear: Turicum has a three spreader masthead sloop rig, with all rod rigging, hydraulic vang and backstay, and all halyards and reefing lines led to cockpit clutches. She has an adjustable baby stay, adjustable whisker pole, headsail roller furling, and jiffy reefing. Her sail inventory includes a main with two reefs, a 140% genoa, a 100% jib, a 150% Gennaker with snuffer, and 2 Triradial spinnakers. Navigation and electronics: A full navigation outfit allows this yacht to be confidently navigated in all weather and offshore. In addition to the steering compass, hand bearing compass, charts and publications that are the foundation of any navigator's kit, Turicum is equipped with speed, depth, and wind instruments; Chart Plotter, GPS, and Radar. She also has an autopilot, two battery banks for domestic use, and an isolated battery bank for the engine starter. Engine and boat systems: Over 8 knots of motoring speed is provided by a 50hp four cylinder Yanmar diesel engine, the fuel tank holds 150 litres for a range of over 300 nautical miles. There is a full 30 amp 110 volt shore power system, and complete 12 volt system including a 2000 watt inverter. The pressure water system feeds hot and cold water to the galley and both heads. There are two heads with isolated holding tanks. Hale first became involved with boats at the age of 6 when he "borrowed" a 14ft. canoe. Although he was unable to sit down for a week, his passion for boats was undiminished. He spent most of his summers on a large lake in B.C.
