In the old days when the owner was provided with a 20 year bonded roof the assumption was that the roof was guaranteed for 20 years. Well, yes and no. The roofer provided a 2 year guarantee and was responsible for making good any defects that appeared in the first two years. After the first two years the manufacturer would pay the roofer to make any defects good for a period of time. To have this type of guarantee in place one had to make sure to follow the rules which were simple.

Peter Rohmann Associates Inc. was founded in April, 1974 by Mr. Peter Rohmann who began the study of roofing technology in 1962 by understudying with one of the foremost Roofing Consultants in Canada, Wyndham J. Freeman Limited, a company established in 1959 when bonding companies decided they would no longer issue performance bonds for roofs. From 1966 to mid 1968 Peter managed a small Toronto office for the same firm.

In 1974 the newly formed company of Peter Rohmann Associates Inc. specialized in consulting and inspection services related to roofing and waterproofing, and in 1988 approximately, when continuing problems would develop at changes in roof elevations abutting masonry, siding and similar wall materials, the company focused on the new air barrier technology. Since that time the company has included air-seal inspections which integrate the roof and the walls thereby enhancing the performance characteristics of the "building envelope".

Some building owners deal with a manufacturer's representative who will provide free specifications, consultation and inspection services. Products in this instance are selected from that manufacturer irrespective of the fact that there may be a product better suited to a specific project.

There are numerous firms that provide the services that Peter Rohmann Associates Inc. provides and some are very well respected. We all spend 100% of our time providing these services and only these services. Beware of the part time firms. Our field representatives do not inspect other disciplines such as concrete work, structural steel, fireproofing, soil conditions and similar work.
