Reinforced Plastic Systems Inc. (RPS) was originally founded in
1956 as ABCO Plastics Ltd.

The business began in 1956 as a manufacturer of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) components for industrial applications. Originally located in Lunenburg, the Division outgrew its facility and moved to Mahone Bay in 1965. That year marked the first rime filament wound FRP piping was produced. By 1970, ABCO had fully developed the P-150 Corrosion Resistant Piping System for use in the pulp & paper, chemical, and power utility markets. The company has also established a reputation for competent engineering in the relatively new field of reinforced plastics.

In 1971, ABCO supplied its first order for A-150 Abrasion
Resistant Piping to Combustion Engineering. The piping was used to carry abrasive limestone slurries in a flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) scrubber installed in Kansas City, MO.
Since then, ABCO has supplied material to 90 of the 150 coal-fired thermal generating plants with FGD scrubbers in the
U.S., France, Poland and Canada.

In the mid 1980's ABCO began diversifying by expanding into large diameter pipe markets, the U.S. chemical process and industrial market, and concentrating more on the domestic Canadian market.

In the early 1990's PRS aggressively pursued opportunities for
ABCO piping systems in FGD overseas and now has 15 installations sites in England, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Poland, the
Czech Republic, Thailand and Taiwan
