Description
Raufoss has developed clear competitive advantages through specialised and differentiated materials technology, using alloys suited to the product and function requirements, as well as to mass production. Development typically involves increasing demands on the performance of products. The strength of the alloy, its fatigue endurance, corrosion resistance and other product-specific characteristics are still the object of constant improvement. Building up expertise in moulding, forming, heat treatment, machining, surface treatment and assembly by keeping them under our own management is a part of this process. Materials technology therefore forms, and will continue to form, a central part of the Raufoss Group ’s ambition to become the world leader at the interface between materials, manufacturing processes and products. The great, future challenges in materials technology primarily lie in further developing current materials and processes. The foundations for the next generation of products will be: improved methods for mapping the properties of materials, combined with breakneck developments in the use of numerical methods for process simulation, strength calculations and damage analyses and with virtual testing. Highly qualified laboratory staff, testing facilities and the ability to manufacture prototypes are valuable assets when teaming up with demanding customers. Raufoss is prepared for, and has the expertise required to meet, future demands for increased product performance, which we will achieve through the introduction of materials and manufacturing processes that surpass those currently in use. The Raufoss Group itself designs and manufactures the most important prototype and mass production tools for certain core processes, especially those tools used for forming in the ”Pre-form Forge ” and for bending extruded sections. The industrial collaboration between tool designers, metallurgists, other specialists, the various divisions and the customer, results in the optimal manufacturing processes that the Raufoss Group is renowned for.
