Description
PlantForm Corporation's mission is to provide low-cost biosimilar antibody drugs to help people fight cancer and other critical illnesses. PlantForm's proprietary, plant-based technology platform was developed at the University of Guelph by Dr. Chris Hall , the Canada Research Chair in Recombinant Antibody Technology. PlantForm Corporation was established in 2008, and licenses Dr. Hall's technology from the university. All relevant intellectual property is protected by patent filings. Projected revenue is more than $50 million by 2016. Our first product will be a biosimilar version of the breast cancer drug Herceptin, the brand name for trastuzumab. Proof of principle studies show equivalent purity and activity compared to Herceptin. PlantForm is now preparing for a Phase 1 clinical trial in humans. We intend to launch our biosimilar trastuzumab, in partnership with a pharmaceutical company, in initial in world markets, beginning in Europe, in the 2015 to 2016 timeframe. PlantForm will also produce biosimilar versions of three other cancer drugs that, together with Herceptin, had combined annual global sales of $23.1 billion in 2009. PlantForm is the winner of the 2010 Innovator of the Year award from Guelph Partnership for Innovation. An expert panel of Canadian and U.S. venture capitalists selected PlantForm as a leading investment opportunity and winner in the life sciences category of Canada's Top 10™ Competition in 2008-09 and 2010.
