We're into the home stretch "“ well, a rather lengthy stretch "“ in our search for our 2011 Class of Rising Stars. Deadline for nominations is Dec. 31; the selected Stars will be featured in the May edition of Oilweek and honoured in June at a gala reception at the Hotel Arts in downtown Calgary. This is our fourth incarnation of our Rising Stars search, and we're looking for the best and brightest the Canadian oil and gas industry has to offer. We're looking for entrepreneurs, earth scientists, financial wunderkinds, legal eagles "“ anyone who is making a mark in the industry and destined for a long and distinguished career. Past Rising Stars include Scott Saxberg, president of Crescent Point Energy, George Gosbee, founder of Tristone Capital, Peter Knapp, president of Bryan Mills Iradesso, Darrell Nimchuk, at the time vice president of Flexpipe Systems and now the president of Tanglewood Energy, Jennifer Adams, a recent Ph.D. graduate from the University of Calgary and now a geochemist researching petroleum biodegradation at ConocoPhillips in Houston, Janet Annesley, vice president of communication with the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, Kim Farwell, president of APEGGA and operations support leader for hydroprocessing with Syncrude Canada, James Kidd, partner with Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP, and Brad Kingston, vice president and general manager of Savanna Well Servicing. Many of our past Rising Stars have continued to rise in the oil and gas universe "“ we'll catch up with some of them in our next Rising Stars issue in May, but suffice to stay, all of our Rising Stars have already made their mark, in the industry and in their communities, and now we want to find the next constellation of stars. Nominees will be judged on a range of criteria, including professional achievements, experience, leadership, and community involvement "“ with a particular focus on how they are giving back to their communities.
