Description
Nilfisk-Advance is proud to be a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) which is the globally recognised strategic platform to advance commitments to sustainability and corporate citizenship. It offers a policy framework governed by 10 universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. By being a signatory to UNGC we wish to underline our commitment to be a responsible company and strive for continuous improvement within all four focus areas. We want to emphasize our precautionary approach to the broad environmental challenges, our promotion of greater environmental responsibility and development of environmentally friendly technologies. You can read more about status on goals and activities in our Communication on Progress (COP) reports: COP report 2010 English COP report 2010 Danish COP report 2009 English The implementation of the United Nations Global Compact is an open-ended process and we are very much aware that through this increased focus we take on us a task that will lead to changes in the way we conduct our business. However we are certain that this commitment will help us in developing our business in a new and positive direction. The United Nations Global Compact was spearheaded by UN secretary general Kofi Annan in January 1999 to help achieve "globalization with a human face" and extend the benefits of globalization to all. The Global Compact has grown to become the world's largest corporate citizenship initiative with nearly 5.000 corporate participants. The ten UNGC principles Human Rights Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses. Labour Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour; Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. Environment Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies. Anti-Corruption Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery. Achieve more by using fewer resources A positive and important side effect from the focus on protecting our environment by using fewer natural resources is that it also makes good sense from a business perspective. Both we and our customers want to achieve more by using less. By reducing our consumption of energy and water, we also reduce our cost on resources and environmental taxes. This has a two sided positive effect on our business. We have more money to invest in the future of our company, and we can give our customers a good prize on our products.
