Monmet was founded in 1988 by Mark Cahill. His goal was to utilize the extensive knowledge he had learned as a member of a family with over 100 years’ worth of experience in the metals business to create a company that delivered products on time and within budget, while maintaining a reputation for unmatched customer service. He, as well as his employees, dedication to the company has resulted in Monmet growing into a dynamic engineering and consulting firm servicing heavy industry.

Founded in Montreal in 1988 as a small entrepreneurial company, Monmet has grown into a dynamic engineering and consulting firm servicing heavy industry. Now a global player in the metals business, specializing in castings, forgings, machining, fabrication and power transmission; Monmet supplies an extensive range of components for the mining, cement, pulp & paper, wood processing and power generation industries. Thanks to our worldwide network of partners, headed by Ferry-Capitain, CMD, ALC Tournai and Scot Forge, our clients have access to some of the largest machine tools in the world.

CMD is a manufacturer of custom gearboxes and couplings for the mining and cement industries (Jumborex, Rollerex, Millrex, and LS and HS couplings), energy and metallurgy (Bogiflex drive system, and pinion stands and gearboxes for rolling mills, and custom spacers and couplings), infrastructure and sugar processing (Caneflex and Canemaster reduction gearboxes for cane crushers, and gearboxes for mixers and crystallizers) CMD also designs and manufactures worm gear sets in an extensive range of sizes and ratios, for torque transmission applications up to 3000 KNm.

All of our products are available rough or finish machined, custom-made to your most exacting specifications. The Monmet team takes pride in studying your part needs and suggesting improvements in design or better component metals to enhance production through longer wear life. Connecting innovative design and precision manufacturing, meticulously checking physical and dimensional integrity against specifications and technical drawings, we build every part to last, keeping your plant or project up and running.

There’s little doubt that Canada’s growing mining industry and its positive knock-on effect for other industries has been a major factor in ensuring Canada’s recession has been less deep and shorter than most other countries.
